JOHN BARDEEN DAY

JOHN BARDEEN DAY

May 23rd is American physicist John Bardeen's birthday. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics on two different occasions. The first prize was won in 1956 for being a part of the team that developed the semiconductor transistor. Transistors have transformed the world of electronics, and have allowed us to build smaller and lighter computers. The second was won in 1972 for his role in formulating the BCS theory of superconductivity. Bardeen is one of the four people to have won two different Nobel Prizes. Marie Curie, Linus Pauling and Frederick Sanger are the other three people who share this honor. As a mark of his appreciation VBIT celebrated 23rd May as John Bardeen day. All the IEEE members and Non-IEEE members as well as the Faculty members were a part of it. Presentations were given regarding John Bardeen’s achievements and his inventions.
